Case Studies of Traditional or Local Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) Related to Wetlands in Asia
The Manobo Tribe living in the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary (AMWS) has found a way to live with the rising and falling of the water level in the marsh – an innovative example of Eco-DRR (Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction) in the disaster-prone Philippines. This is only one of the multiple case studies of Eco-DRR in Asia.
In 2019, Wetlands International Japan launched a project to study traditional and local Eco-DRR practices related to wetlands in Asia and assess their effectiveness. Funded by the Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund from April 2019 to March 2023, Asian experts conducted field studies and workshops to compile 19 case studies from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Japan.
